Happy Minimalistic Monday! One area that I've heard time and time again that is the hardest to downsize is your closet! I'm not much of a fashionista myself, so I had a chat with fashion expert, Marianna Milkis-Edwards to enlighten me on how to solve the "I have nothing to wear crisis" and help minimize your closet to your core 40 pieces. Listen to our chat on our podcast, Earthy.
In addition to managing your wardrobe we also discuss the huge gap in the market for affordable 100% sustainable, organic clothing. I mentioned in a previous blog entry the advances towards a responsibly synthetic spiderweb-like fabric that is lighter than nylon and more durable than steel! I hope this technology advances and we can fill this need.
Marianna cofounded a pretty cool tech company that outsources your "What to wear" decisions to fashion experts through a Facebook Messenger Bot. Her company, Epytom, allows you to enter your wardrobe once, your style preferences, and it will dress you everyday thereafter if you'd like. Simply check the current weather conditions and the occasion and the bot will create an outfit for you.
I like this idea because this saves you decision making capitol for more important decisions you'll have to make later that day and time sorting through your closet trying to come up with an outfit (they estimate up to 1.5hrs a week will be saved).
Since there are about 700 unique outfits that this bot can create with your core 40 pieces (including shoes and accessories) it will help you pare down your wardrobe and squash the "I have nothing to wear crisis" once and for all. This not only relieves stress, increase time, and decision making capitol, but also decreases shopping and negative environmental impact. Just one free tool to help you create a self sustaining, eco friendly wardrobe while decreasing your carbon footprint.
I'd love to hear your tips and tricks on how you have minimized your closet. Is anyone interested in a wardrobe challenge? You might have heard of the minimalist fashion challenge 33 that invites you to dress with 33 items or less for 3 months. If you wanted to utilize this tool, I'm sure you could tweak it to 40 or just input 33 items into the bot.
No consumption, instead, optimization.
